INFORMATION ABOUT DANCE PERFORMANCE

 

SAVE THIS DOCUMENT.  YOU WILL NEED IT IN THE SPRING

 

WHEN

 

It will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM.  The dress rehearsal will be Saturday, June 9, 12 PM to 5:00 PM.  The 1st and 2nd graders will be required to stay only until 1:30 PM (If we’re running on time).  Everyone else needs to be there most or all of the time .

 

 

WHERE

 

We will be performing on the stage of Lexington High School auditorium.  All classes will meet once at the High School the week of the performance, on Thursday or Friday, June 8&9 at the times listed below.   On the week of the performance, the Monday Tuesday and Wednesday classes WILL also meet at their usual time at the church.  The Thursday classes will meet for an extra rehearsal at the First Parish Church at the following times: 

 

*Thursday 3&4 Grade class will meet on Tuesday June 5          3:30-4:30  First Parish

*Thursday 7&8 Grade class will meet on Monday June 4          3:00-4:00  First Parish

 

** Monday classes will have an extra class on the week of Memorial Day.  The class will be Friday June 1 at our usual class time at the church to makeup for the Memorial Day vacation.

 

Please write these extra rehearsals in your calendar-NOW.

COMMITMENT

 

A decision must be made before joining the next session as to whether the student can make a commitment to attend every class, the dress rehearsal, and the performance without fail and on time.  Because new students cannot be admitted after January every student who joins then is committing to the entire session, from January through June.  Therefore money will not be refunded if the student drops out.  In addition, dropping out after we have started choreographing (beginning in March) creates problems for the other dancers and the choreographer, and is therefore unacceptable. 

 

TIME                                                                                                                        

 

The responsibility for time is not excessive considering the project.  It requires attending class on time each week and staying until the very end. It means only one rehearsal a week (class time) until the week of the performance when it will include the class at the Church, the class at the High School, the dress rehearsal on Saturday and the performance on Sunday  If missing a class is unavoidable, I will need a PHONE message before class with an explanation, as soon as you know the absence will be necessary.

 

The Tuesday 5th and 6th grade class will be extended 5 minutes (4:30 - 5:45), beginning the first rehearsal, March 1.

 

COST

 

The cost of the classes will remain the same.  The enrollment charge (which will be included in your session fee [listed on pg. 3]) is $55 for each family with one student, and $10 for each additional family member in the performance.  This will directly pay for renting the auditorium and all related costs. Costume costs will be kept to a minimum (to the best of my ability).  The cost of the costumes is not included in the $55 fee.

 

VOLUNTEERS TO SEW COSTUMES

 

A few classes every year need volunteers to help sew costumes.  Please indicate below if you are able to do this.  The sewing is usually fairly simple.  Your help is much appreciated.  Thanks.

                                               WINTER/SPRING SESSION FEES             (4.)

    This session is coming to a close the week before Christmas, the last class will be held the week of Dec. 12 - Dec. 15.   The new session will begin the week of Monday, January 2.  I need to know who will be continuing and who will not, so that I can plan for new students who want to join.  To reserve your place in the class, you will need to pay for the next session with a check by/before Dec. 15.  If you are not returning, please call/email me right away so I can begin filling the space.    

 

     During the last week of classes before Christmas, Dec. 12 – 15, the parents (and siblings) are invited to observe all preschool through the 5th and 6th grade classes.

 

THIS INFORMATION IS CONFUSING.  PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. A performance fee for one student is included in the session fee below. If you have two students in the performance, add the two session fees together and subtract $45 (the performance fee for additional children is $10 each).  This does not include the two preschool/kindergarten classes or the adult class.  These classes are not participating in the concert and $55 has not been added to their fee.

SET DESIGN WORKSHOPS

 

This year the Monday 1 & 2, Wed 1 & 2, Monday 3 & 4,  and the High School classes are very lucky to be the four classes selected to have a set design workshop with Pam Shanley, a professional visual artist/costume and set designer. She has been giving these workshops to my classes for years, and has during that time designed all the sets for the student performances.  Pam also does set design for theater and dance companies in the area. She is on staff at the Arlington Center for the Arts.

 

We will be meeting for 2 hrs. The cost will be $20.   This money goes to pay Pam and covers materials and the Arlington Center for the Arts rental. Pam will be at the dress rehearsal and performance to stage-manage the set designs.  (Although I will be present at the workshop, I will not receive payment for it).  In order to select a date, please let me know if you can attend any of the following dates.  Put a Y for yes and an N for no PLEASE WRITE ‘Y’ FOR ALL OF THE DATES YOU CAN POSSIBLY ATTEND (EVEN IF IT IS A PUSH FOR YOU).  .  If you prefer a date, you can indicate that while still saying yes to more than one.  Only put no if there is a conflict that is utterly insurmountable. If you write ‘N’ an explanation is necessary. If you can come to part of a workshop write ‘y/part’. I will let you know which date is chosen. Each class will come to only one 2 hour workshop.
